Q&A

Q&A

1.) What is a Hybrid Publisher?

Hybrid publishing, also known as partnership publishing, independent publishing, or co-publishing, combines features of traditional publishing and self-publishing, offering authors an accessible and efficient route to a professionally published book.

2.) What does a Hybrid Publisher offer?

While providing the same quality, standards, and benefits of traditional publishing, the business model of hybrid publishing differs in that authors usually shoulder all or part of the costs of publishing upfront and in return, get a higher than standard share in royalties.

With WWP, that’s 100%.

3.) What is an advantage of Hybrid Publishing?

Authors maintain creative control of their book and the author is treated as an integral part of the publishing process from day one.

4.) Is Hybrid Publishing the same as Vanity Publishing?

No, Hybrid Publishing will not accept just any book like Vanity Publishing does. There is a strict submission process with WWP and only books that meet our criteria and publishing standards will be selected.

5.) Will I be considered self-published?

No – You will have a publisher – Wellness Writers Press!

6.) What is a publishing imprint?

An imprint is a division or arm of the main publishing company.

7.) Do I need 1000 copies of my book in my garage?

A common misconception for authors who remember the good ol days, is that you need to stack countless boxes of your book in your garage and sell them yourself. Of course, that is no longer the case with our internet connected society. Thank goodness!

Everything today is print-on-demand.

If a book store wants a supply of your book, or if a reader wants to purchase your book on Amazon, those books are printed at that time, then shipped to where they’re needed. All that work is done for you via the distributors.

8.) How does my book get into distribution channels?

WWP will help you upload your book to distribution outlets like Amazon, Ingram and Kobo. Once that’s done, it will be available for sale in all the usual places. If you want to approach bookstores to bring your book in, they will have access to getting the books wholesale via IngramSpark.

9.) What will my ROI be if I do this?

That all depends on how passionate you are to build your platform and share this project with the people who need it. Traditional publishing will not consider any project unless the author has a substantial existing platform (5 to 10 thousand and up), that will ensure their ROI.

A successful book project boils down to your platform, and your efforts to build that platform, regardless of what avenue you take to publication.

10.) What if I’m uncomfortable with the idea of crowdsourcing?

Crowdsourcing can definitely seem daunting. I used to think so too. From my experience with dozens of authors, I have come to learn how amazing it can be. It forces the author out of their comfort zone, to reach out to everyone you have ever known! lol You’d be surprised how many people will want to support your project! It takes work on your part, no doubt, but we will oversee the whole process and provide the structure and methods to use to be successful!

The added bonus about running a campaign, is that you will also build your platform at the same time. While doing this, you will reach out to all of the avenues: clubs, associations, practices, who would be interested in having a resource like your book project. That is how you will find your market – upfront – before you even go through the process of publication.

A campaign helps ensure that your books get the exposure it needs to be successful. Without it, you will need to build your platform on your own. This is doable, but a lot easier for authors who already have a thriving business and contact list. I now highly recommend going the crowdsource path to my authors. Of course, the choice is ultimately up to you.

11.) Should I at least try to go the traditional publishing route?

Yes! Please do your due diligence and check out all other avenues. I highly recommend that! It will help you to make an informed decision about such an important endeavor.

Having helped authors to publication for over a decade, I am using practices within Wellness Writers Press that I have found to produce the most effect results. It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch my authors make it to the finish line, especially when they have had no money of their own to make that happen.
